Smile Enhancement (Cosmetic Dentistry)

We create beautiful smiles through modern cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic dentistry is an aesthetic dentistry that aims to improve the look of your teeth and smile, while preserving as much of the natural tooth as possible. Cosmetic dentistry could be the way to achieve the smile you’ve always dreamed of.

White fillings Composite fillings

White fillings can be used to restore teeth which have been affected by decay or replace silver fillings for aesthetic reasons. The main benefit of white fillings is cosmetic, however many people are also concerned about the risks of the mercury contained in silver fillings.

For aesthetic reasons, this type of filling is most often reserved for the front teeth, although they can be used for certain types of fillings on the back teeth. Composite material is a mixture of plastic and fine glass that can be matched to the colour of the tooth. Once the material is applied to the tooth, and shaped, the dentist will use an ultraviolet light to harden the material. These fillings tend to last about 5 years.

A potential negative is that they can shrink over time which can produce gaps. If left unchecked, this could lead to further tooth decay.

Several different metals, including mercury, are mixed together to create a durable metal filling that can be packed into a cavity and easily contoured to the normal tooth structures. Once it sets, an amalgam filling can easily handle the pressures of chewing. For aesthetic reasons, these are usually reserved for back teeth such as molars. However, here have been a lot of articles in the news about the purported dangers of mercury, which is a major component of an amalgam filling. While it is true that mercury by itself can pose a health hazard, when it is combined with other metals the properties change rendering it harmless.

Research at the University of Calgary, Faculty of Medicine and other prominent medical schools, have demonstrated that mercury vapor continuously escapes from dental amalgams and 80 percent of this vapor is immediately absorbed through the lungs and into the bloodstream. Once in the blood, mercury vapor enters into the cells almost immediately.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are custom-made shells which can be fitted to conceal cosmetic dental issues such as discolouration, chips and cracks, and problems with alignment. Veneers restore the natural appearance of your smile.
Veneers are made from either porcelain or resin. Porcelain veneers are more stain resistant and appear more like natural teeth due to their light reflecting properties. Resin veneers, on the other hand, are thinner and can be placed without requiring as much of the tooth’s surface to be removed.
